Power Usage

ZiggyMeter offers flexible power options, allowing it to be powered either by batteries or via a USB-C connection.

Battery Power

For installations where a power outlet is not easily accessible, ZiggyMeter can be powered by 2×AAA batteries (LR03 or R03).

  • Operation: When running on battery power, the device enters a deep sleep mode after each reading to conserve energy.
  • Recommendation: Strongly recommend using the Zigbee protocol when operating on batteries. WiFi has significantly higher power requirements, which will drastically reduce battery life.
  • Temperature: Standard alkaline batteries are generally better suited for low-temperature environments than rechargeable batteries, which can lose capacity quickly in the cold.

Even when operating via Zigbee, you can temporarily enable WiFi to access the web interface for configuration or to use the REST API.

USB-C Power

For continuous monitoring and more frequent data updates, you can power ZiggyMeter using a standard USB-C cable and a power supply.

  • Always Online: In this mode, the device remains online at all times, providing constant access to the REST API and the web interface.
  • WiFi Usage: USB-C power is the preferred choice when using WiFi connectivity.

Power Source Management

If both batteries are installed and a USB-C power supply is connected, the device will automatically prioritize the USB-C source to preserve battery life.
